Commercial Roofing and Facade Solutions (CRFS) were appointed to supply the roofing and cladding package for new-build student accommodation comprising 276 units in Kingston-on-Thames. The £19m project will offer brilliantly designed, sophisticated student accommodation within a 10-minute walk from Kingston University and Kingston town centre.

Part of our solution, the BML60 system, is an open joint rainscreen system with variable joint widths. BML60 can be used for landscape panels, as part of a vertical wall cladding system, and is tested as an integral part of a through-wall solution under CWCT guidelines.

The Knauf Earthwool insulation is a lightweight, non-combustible rock mineral wool slab containing a water repellent additive, specifically designed for use in rainscreen cladding systems and classified as Euroclass A1 (non-combustible) to BS EN 13501-1.

The client also opted for a Sika Trocal single ply mechanically fastened system. The Type S membrane is mechanically fastened using Sika Trocal discs – a system that fastens both the insulation and the membrane, thus reducing the fasteners required for a project by 40-60% compared with other systems, making installation quicker and far more efficient.
